It certainly was a wild goose chase trying to search out the Malaysian Air Force Museum. 2 stabs at tracking down a bus proved fruitless and the advice from the tourist office, normally a den of last resort, to walk it in 20 to 30 minutes, got me stuck in the middle of nowhere surrounded by busy 4 lane highways. As a small compensation I chanced upon the Istana Negara instead, the Royal Palace, where I was lucky to immediately witness the changing of the guard. First horseback sentries then foot soldiers. Surprisingly, despite all the regal overtones, the head of state in Malaysia, the Malay Sultanate is an elected post for a 5 year term. And indeed, a new Sultan and Sultana had just been elected a few days before, this pair notably young as one local remarked to me. Having had quite enough of that I headed back home to redeem myself in some work on the net, then Hebrew Helen called round and we headed for nearby Arab Square. Boasting just 2 restaurants and a small shop it turned out to be a non event, though we did achieve our main mutual goal in buying some houmus.
