Fatepur Sikhri

sunny

I was in half a dozen minds as to my next move from Agra. I had to be in Mumbai in 4 days time to catch a flight and so it was looking pretty improbable that I would be able to do Rajasthan much justice on the way. I toyed with the idea of going with Ozzie Rose to Varanasi, a city which was a must see at some point, but that was clearly in the wrong direction for the moment, and with not much of note between it and the backtrack to distant Mumbai. In the end I plumped for a ticket to Jodhpur at the last moment and it was clearly meant to be, I got it without hassle whilst Rose and a young French guy were left snookered for a berth. Job done, another fine sunny day was now almost burny, and perfect for the short day trip out to the perfectly preserved abandoned city of Fatepur Sikhri. I'm not sure if disappointment is a fair word to use but it turned out to be more a palace complex than a city as I had expected. It was undeniably massive in scale and in superb condition though.
